While hindsight is a perfect science, we can reveal that we were in contact with the FOPH in the early stages of the pandemic, offering our technology to identify the people who were most susceptible to the virus, and advised them that these were the people who needed to be protected.<\/p>\n<p>Shutting down entire sections of the economy, especially tourism, barring people from work, and paying government employees to stay at home was unnecessary. It cost the economy, and the recovery is not yet complete. In February 2022, before the war broke out in Ukraine, Switzerland\u2019s inflation rate was already at 2.15%<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_1152_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1152_1_8');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_1152_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1152_1_8');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_1152_1_8\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[8]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1152_1_8\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inflation.eu\/en\/inflation-rates\/switzerland\/historic-inflation\/cpi-inflation-switzerland-2022.aspx\">Inflation Switzerland 2022<\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_1152_1_8').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1152_1_8', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], });<\/script>. That rise is directly attributable to poorly directed restrictions put in place to beat Covid.<\/p>\n<p>Proof that the approach was wrong, if any more is needed, is to look at what happened in China and Vietnam when they ended their draconian Covid lock-downs because of rising public protest. Without recourse to vaccinations, they reopened their economies. There was no significant increase in mortalities<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_1152_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1152_1_9');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_1152_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1152_1_9');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_1152_1_9\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[9]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1152_1_9\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldometers.info\/coronavirus\/\">COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC<\/a><\/span><\/span><script type=\"text\/javascript\"> jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_1152_1_9').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1152_1_9', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], });<\/script> in either country.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Swiss government was not alone in its adoption of its response, which mirrors the strategy adopted in medieval Europe during the great plague. Led by the USA, most western countries shut down their economies as they panicked in response to medical experts\u2019 predictions of a global catastrophe.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden stood alone in making an intelligent analysis of the threat and keeping their economy open<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_1152_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1152_1_10');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_1152_1('footnote_plugin_reference_1152_1_10');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_1152_1_10\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[10]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_1152_1_10\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\"><a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/did-swedens-controversial-covid-strategy-pay-off-in-many-ways-it-did-but-it-let-the-elderly-down-188338\">Did Sweden\u2019s controversial COVID strategy pay off?
