Australia bans the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine

We’re all familiar with how the Australian government prevented Novak Djokovic from competing in the 2022 Australian open, kicking him out of the country and banning him from re-entry because he refused to be vaccinated for Covid.

Now, they have egg on their face. The Australian government have had to withdraw the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine[1]Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) vaccine and thrombosis with thrombocytopenia (TTS) because it’s killing people. The percentages are very low: 2 out of 100,000 people aged 60 and over and 2 to 3 out of 100,000 people under 60.

There is another interesting factoid, that Australia’s fatality rate is lower than the rest of the world, because in their words, they started to realise the problem earlier than everyone else. Imagine what could have happened if Novak’s PR team had got hold of that little piece of information.

Or perhaps they did, and that’s the reason that Novak was allowed to play this year, eventually winning the championship.
